The Art of the Title Sequence. A film/designer nerd's dreamsite!

I have moved out, changed my address and have a new permanent residence in Nerdville.  I have been joyously wasting away my life on The Art of the Title Sequence. Self explanatory, this is a site of strictly title sequences from television, film, cartoons etc. Interviews with the creators, designers and directors of this fantastic yet frequently overlooked art form.  I'm easily dazzled by the detail of a film maker who takes painstaking care in artfully communicating the content of the film based on the handful of minutes held within the opening credits.

Faves: I remember the first time I was captivated by the suspense thriller 'SE7EN's title sequence. I thought to myself "if the rest of the movie is as incredible as this is...wow! (or something like that) The stuttered editing, scratches, tight field of focus panning, collages, and a killer Coil remix of NIN's classic 'Closer' accentuate a haunting sequence. You're either creeped out, or inspired to go make art;  Either way its a win/win.
'Monty Pythons and the Quest for the Holy Grail's sequence is a complete riot if you're willing to read a novel's worth of words, and 'Up In the Air's is an exquisite marriage between breathtaking photography and thought out typefaces and arrangement. 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World' satisfies all nerve endings designated for loud tunes, obnoxious color and an unapologetic abuse of nostalgia.

Browse their extensive library, and notch out a couple of hours for your viewing nerdery.

Ewen Stenhouse's amazin illustrations. Free compy/iPHONE wallpprs

Ewen is a man after my own heart. Illustrator and designer with a grand influence birthed in the pages of comic books and 80's nostalgia. He created an incredible homage to He-Man in the form of a computer wallpaper, you can grab over at The Fox Is Black, and a amazing trio of iPHONE wallpapers of three quirky man-beast icons from the fluorescent archives of 80's cinema: Teen Wolf, Howard the Duck, and the chuckling wide-mouthed winged wrestler in studded underoo's from Flash Gordon.  Browse his site and be amazed by his incredible charicaters, icons, videos and immense talent. Loving this guys stuff!!!

Star Wars Uncut. Redone by the web community. super sweet.

I learned recently that Tuesday was Star Wars Day??? After doing a bit of research (a quick stroll over to Wookiepedia) I find this detail pertainig to May 4th:

May 4 is often known as "StarWars Day". It is jokingly said: "May the 4th be with you", in reference to the popular phrase in Star Wars: "May the Force be with you."The phrase dates back to at least 1979, on the day Margaret Thatcher was elected Britain's first woman prime minster. Her party took out a newspaper ad in the London Evening News that said "May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations."

So in commemoration of this festive of weeks, I present you with the ultimate Site Saturday yet (for me, at least): STAR WARS UNCUT.  If you havent heard the buzz on this project, lemme educate you quickly.  A few brainiacs cut up the original Star Wars 'New Hop' into 15second bits. Then allowed the web community to grab them up and redo them however they wanted. They can tell you better (from the STAR WARS UNCUT website):

Star Wars Uncut is the brainchild of Casey Pugh, a developer dedicated to creating new and fun experiences on the web. Working as a developer at Vimeo, Casey became interested in using the internet as a tool for crowdsourcing user content. Star Wars was a natural choice to explore the dynamics of community creation on the web - the response from fans has been overwhelming worldwide and the resulting movie is incredibly fun to watch. Star Wars Uncut has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal - we thank everyone for making it such a special project. StarWarsUncut.com won a 2010 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media - Fiction.

Here's a sweet sample

Steph Mantis' animal butt magnets. awesome.

Steph Mantis designs products for those in life whom enjoy smiling. Her creations are pack with whimsy and humor, and as you know those are a must for my scrupulous taste - Art, music, graphic design and product design should, in some way, make me smile. These animal butt magnets and animal head rack are as simple of a design as it is ingenious. Some of the best designs have an intricate marriage of those two specific characteristics. I've spent hours on her site, following products from initial conception to manufactured product. There's so much to learn from, and be inspired by here! Enjoy!

the 'LIFT' is also an ingenious little product

BWillackers' Spring Mix is Here!!

Fact! Its a light and airy sun-kissed mix, budding with the colors of joy and funk. And it only took me a few minutes to craft that sentence!! Impressed? Not nearly as much as you will be when you download 'Late Bloomer' and allow its warm breeze of vernal house freshness to fill your airwaves. I should really think about writing copy for Renuzit or Febreeze. Enjoy the tunes and please, by all means, pass them on to someone in need of wholesome house goodness!!
