holy mashopolis! (Holy ghost! vs. Black Van)

This mashup comes via DFA Records Blog, and is one of the best I've heard in a while. Probably doesn't hurt that it was done by alex frankel of holy ghost! If you've never heard either of these original tracks, you'd think this is the real deal.  Beautiful work.

BREAKBOT'S NEW EP!!!!!!! VALENTINES MIX!!!

*All this in time to put on your favorite sweety's Valentine's Mix CD!!!
Breakbot, just signed to the Parisian juggernaut label Ed Banger and consequently will be celebrating Valentine's Day differently this year. Instead of candy and flowers, Vday is the day of the release of his first EP at Ed Banger called Baby I’m Yours. I cannot tell you how excited I am for this EP, considering this guy is one of my most favoritest fella making tunes right now. His sound has sensibilities from a earlier age, when public stresses and teenage angst weren't as prevalent. It's subtleties lean towards the funky and colorful.  It brings smiles, and the basslines cause me to make that "stinky" face (that's when you know its good).  His creativity is as relentless and innovative as his talent and i can't get enough!!!

For your current festive needs, here is a Valentine's Mix, Breakbot released in celebration of his first officially labeled EP release (technically, he produced it for Dazed Digital) Please download this and enjoy!!! For many of you, this will be a new sound, and God only knows you hipsters could use a little diversity.

BREAKBOT'S VALENTINE MIX

Here are two tracks from his upcoming EP, given with love from the man himself.
Baby I'm Yours is about as good of a time as you can have legally.  Turn this up and smile!!!

hipsters

Saw this first on SMILEFORCAMERA.COM
This is exquisite and can't tell you how many hepcats I know that would fit this mold perfectly, and i must confess i definitely can snap into these on occasion. In July of 2008 Adbuster's published a scathing commentary on the western hipster.
"With nothing to defend, uphold or even embrace, the idea of "hipsterdom" is left wide open for attack. And yet, it is this ironic lack of authenticity that has allowed hipsterdom to grow into a global phenomenon that is set to consume the very core of Western counterculture. Most critics make a point of attacking the hipster’s lack of individuality, but it is this stubborn obfuscation that distinguishes them from their predecessors, while allowing hipsterdom to easily blend in and mutate other social movements, sub-cultures and lifestyles."
FYI: Adbuster's now has an online shoe store, marketing to the unmarketable so everyone can be fashionably unfashionable - everyone's a potential soft-market, i guess (oh, the irony is thicker than the frames of Rivers Cuomo's sweet specs). Its the great dilemma of this breed: At one moment, scowling at the rest of society for being complete conformists, and then patronizing shops and online-boutiques specifically engineered for their exact narrow-casted target market (so explain to me how a non-conformist even has a target market). It's a curiously engineered breed and someone's cashing in on their "culture."

"...a culture lost in the superficiality of its past and unable to create any new meaning. Not only is it unsustainable, it is suicidal. While previous youth movements have challenged the dysfunction and decadence of their elders, today we have the "hipster" – a youth subculture that mirrors the doomed shallowness of mainstream society."
Painfully self-aware enough to understand my attraction to certain aspects of "hipsterdom," i tread lightly, always keeping close attention to the man in the mirror (God bless you, Michael).  My exploration continues soon. Please, leave me your comments and opinions. I'd like to start an open dialogue on this topic.

DANGER! the new one is OUT!!!

Oh Danger's new album is OUT!!!  Vinyl was released on January 25th and Monday, Feb 1st the digital release has sprung from its trap. The concept of Danger's EP's are inspired from old video games (aren't we all). Each release places you in a different "setting."  "09/16 2007" his previous EP, was set in the jungle. In true video game style; when you level up, the settings changes. For "level 2 (ie his latest effort 09/17 2007)" we're dropped down into urban surroundings for more of a concrete, steel and brawn kind of a feel. Takes me back to Double Dragon Level One!!

Tobbe of Dödselectro made this unofficial video last week. Nothing says loving like a chromed out robo mr. universe.

This track deserves nothing less than a hefty cranking on the ole volume knobbies.
